Utility Relocation
As Consolidated Qwest, Xcel Energy and Comcast continue their service relocations, there will be lane closures along the 13th Avenue corridor.Overview
Utility relocation is a major part of the West Corridor project. All utilities need to be removed from the RTD right-of-way prior to construction of the light rail. Each utility company is responsible for relocating their services to a different location, sometimes as far as three blocks away from their existing locations. Utility relocation started in 2007 and will continue through the winter. In some instances, utility relocations will be happening concurrently with light rail construction. Xcel Energy electric and gas, Qwest, Comcast, Consolidated Mutual Water and Lakewood Sanitary Sewer all have work along the corridor and in many cases are working right next to each other. Use the information provided below to find out who is working in your area, and what they are doing. There are also overviews for each utility company and contact information if you have questions.

Easements
In order to meet RTD's requirements, it is necessary for utility companies to obtain new easements or other rights along some portions of private property in order to properly serve your area. If an easement is needed, a utility company representative will contact you and explain your specific situation. This process is in process, so don't be surprised if you are contacted regarding an easement on your property. In some cases this can be up to three blocks from the light rail alignment.
