Wall Designs

There are a number of different types of walls in the West Corridor project.  Here is a quick overview of the wall types, what they will look like and how they work with each other.

MSE Walls - These are the Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls that will make up the area where the tracks rise and the train goes up in the area over Wadsworth and Kipling.  These "approach" walls are called MSE walls.  The design at Kipling and Wadsworth is a combination of the 'fractured fin' both vertically and horizontally and a grasses icon.  Each panel is 5' x 5'.

Sound walls - These walls are a mitigation measure along the trackway in areas where noise impacts have been identified.  The sound walls are either 6' or 3' above the top of the rail, depending on the area.  The design is 'fractured fin' or basically rough vertical texture.  To see areas where sound walls will be located, click the link above.

Retaining Walls - These walls are used to 'retain' earth or ballast, usually adjacent to the tracks - these examples would be mostly in the Denver Parks.

Retaining wall with post & cable barrier - Used along trackway by the street where the street is much lower (more than 18") than the tracks.  The design has been simplified to eliminate the grasses section.  It now looks like the lower part for the entire wall.

Ballast Wall with post & cable barrier- these are a type of retaining wall also, less than 18" tall and are adjacent to the trackway, holding up the ballast (rocks) that are under the ties and track, in areas where there is less than 18" difference between the height of the tracks and the height of the street.
