Design changes in the EA

In May 2006, the RTD project team conducted an internal Value Engineering (VE) exercise to look at ways the project could be more efficient and cost-effective. Some of these changes include running trains between Jeffco and the Denver Federal Center (DFC) every 15 minutes instead of every 5 minutes and changing the alignment as it leaves the DFC to run on the south side of 6th Avenue between Union and east of Indiana.  An additional more in-depth VE exercise was completed in 2007.

Due to the proposed changes resulting from these VE exercises, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requested that an Environmental Assessment (EA) be completed in order to fully investigate and document the extent of any potential impacts from these changes. The EA updated the impact information presented in the Final Environmental Impact Statement, which was completed in 2003.
