RTD celebrates opening of Boulder Junction at Depot Square StationThe Regional Transportation District and the city of Boulder celebrated the opening of RTD's Boulder Junction at Depot Square Station with a dedication ceremony and open house August 13, 2015. The facility is just east of 30th Street at Pearl Parkway.
The station is part of the 160-acre Boulder Junction area that is being redeveloped into a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented neighborhood with regional transit connections and public spaces. In addition to the RTD bus station, the development also includes a 150-room Hyatt Place Hotel, an apartment complex with 71 affordable housing units and plans for a future restaurant.
"This transit center will bring state-of-the-art transportation service to east Boulder," said RTD Board Chair Chuck Sisk. "With a Flatiron Flyer arriving every 15 minutes during peak travel times, Boulder Junction at Depot Square Station will be a cornerstone for Boulder commuters. This facility will be accessible and welcoming to all, regardless of transportation mode."
The 45,655-square-foot Boulder Junction at Depot Square Station includes six underground bus bays, a ticket sales and information booth, and 75 parking spaces in the parking garage reserved for RTD patrons. In addition, bike-n-ride passengers will have access to 27 bike racks that hold 54 bikes, and the underground facility will be accessible via a pedestrian breezeway.
The facility started offering service on Monday, Aug. 17, serving the HX and S routes. In January 2016, the Flatiron Flyer, RTD FasTracks' new bus rapid transit service will begin utilizing the facility as an end-of-line station.
Connecting Boulder to Denver, the Flatiron Flyer service will provide reliable, comfortable and frequent trips to six park-n-rides along U.S. 36, as well as Union Station and Civic Center Station in downtown Denver.
Speakers at the event included RTD Board Chair Chuck Sisk, RTD interim General Manager & CEO Dave Genova, Boulder Mayor Matt Appelbaum, Boulder City Manager Jane Brautigam and Boulder Junction developer Scott Pederson.
"RTD is investing in Boulder and its residents, and the opening of this new facility is a shining example of the good things that happen through regional partnerships and collaboration," said Dave Genova, RTD Interim General Manager.
After the ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony, guests toured the new Flatiron Flyer bus, the underground bus station, Junction Place Bridge, Pearl Parkway multiway boulevard, Solana 3100 Pearl apartment complex and the Hyatt Place hotel.
