How BRT Works
There are six major components necessary to create bus rapid transit along U.S. 36:
- Priority transit lanes: Flatiron Flyer will travel on the express lanes on U.S. 36. For some instances, it will travel on a combination of express lanes and on the highway shoulder to bypass congestion.
- Quick access on and off the road to pick up/drop off passengers: Dedicated bus ramps were built on U.S. 36 to decrease the amount of time it takes to access passenger boarding areas.
- Less frequent stops: The Flatiron Flyer will have two types of service: express service with fewer stops between Boulder and Denver and all-stop service that will make stops at all six stations on U.S. 36, for easy access to all the towns between Denver and Boulder.
- More frequent service: Buses will be providing more frequent and predictable service to stations along U.S. 36.
- Park-n-Rides: There are 6 Park-n-Rides on U.S. 36, with a total of 5,073 parking spaces, making this service accessible and convenient no matter where you live along U.S. 36.
- Highway improvements: 18 miles of express lanes, improved highway conditions, and wide shoulders will help to ensure service reliability.
