About the EFR Rail Extension Project

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is the transportation
agency for an eight-county area in Colorado serving a population of 2.8
million people. RTD is committed to increasing the number of original
commissioned pieces of art throughout its district. RTD is pleased to
announce a series of commissioned art opportunities on the FasTracks
Southeast (EFR) rail line extension project-which includes Sky Ridge
Station, Lone Tree City Center Station, and RidgeGate Station, all of
which are currently under construction.

The Southeast Rail Line opened in 2006 as a 19-mile extension of rail from I-25 & Broadway, with 15 miles along I-25 to Lincoln and an additional 4 miles along
I-225 to Parker Road. This extension will add an additional 2.3 miles of
rail and three new stations to bring service south into the city of
Lone Tree located in Douglas County.

Sky Ridge Station

Site Description

The preferred location for artwork at this station is in the plaza (round
area). The contractor currently will not pour a concrete pad until there
is a clear idea of what will be installed. The selected artist will
have to provide an engineered foundation design as part of their piece.
Generally, it will be in the location shown.

The Sky Ridge Station is located in a mix-use area in close proximity to the Sky Ridge Medical Center, apartments, businesses and restaurants.
Commission amount- Sky Ridge Station artwork is $100,000.

Ridge Gate Station

Site Description

Artwork location at this station is in the plaza and/or on the parking garage.
Final art placement will require approval and is dependent on what is
proposed. The plaza area is located between the parking garage and the
station platforms.

Once this rail extension project is completed, the RidgeGate Station will be the new end-of-line station and garage (the current end of line is at the Lincoln Station). The area surrounding this station currently consists of open space and The Schweiger Ranch that is over 100 years old. The area is experiencing
growth and development.
Commission: RidgeGate Station artwork is $150,000.

Lone Tree City Center Station -Design subject to

Windscreen placement will be on light rail platforms at Sky Ridge, Lone Tree
City Center and RidgeGate stations. The enhancements are intended to provide
cohesiveness along the line while providing an individual identity to each

Requirements: Windscreens need to be opaque or
semitransparent. Criteria requires 75% if the windscreen is to be translucent
or transparent. The material has to be durable for cleaning and maintenance
purposes that won't scratch or be easily peeled off by patrons or cleaning
activities or melt/deform in the sun. Glass seems to work best although we
currently have polycarbonate called out on the plans.

The windscreens will be located at three stations. Lone Tree
City Center Station, which is the middle station of the three, will be located
in the center of a new development project in the area. The area was previously
vacant land, just west of the Centennial Airport.

Commission: windscreen enhancements are $100,000.
