Signs of Construction: How Kiewit Stays Safe

Every year, more than 80,000 workers suffer an injury on construction job sites in the U.S. In an effort to raise awareness in construction safety, Kiewit Infrastructure Company and 30 other construction companies launched the first-ever Safety Week for the industry. This is what Kiewit does to make sure their crews are safe:

  • Quarterly mass safety meetings with the team where each discipline is given a chance to speak and specific safety concerns/training are discussed
  • Weekly safety calls which everyone from the district calls in to hear the latest safety concerns and trainings
  • Weekly safety orientation for every new person on the job (including subcontractors)
  • Various safety trainings (fall protection, confined spaces, etc.)
  • Safety recognition-"Safety crew of the month" awarded a box at the Rockies game
  • Managers do a weekly safety tour of the job that is reviewed at weekly staff meeting
