Current Project Phase

The Northwest Rail Line Environmental Evaluation

The RTD Northwest Rail Line completed the environmental planning process and preliminary engineering phase with the release of the Final Environmental Evaluation (EE) in June 2010. The Northwest Rail Line EE is an environmental study that RTD prepared by following the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Final EE identifies the community and environmental impacts that may result from the construction and implementation of commuter rail passenger service along the BNSF Railway line and recommends ways of lessening them.

RTD conducted community outreach and involvement throughout the environmental study to collect input on its findings and recommendations. After the release of the Draft EE, RTD held three public meetings to collect comments on the study, including the proposed mitigation measures. These comments were addressed and included in their entirety in the Final EE. The project team will now move forward with design and construction as funding becomes available through the FasTracks Program.
