Site Selection
Earlier this year RTD identified 25 potential sites throughout the Denver metro area for the relocated Bus Maintenance Facility and evaluated them based on size, location, cost effectiveness, access, compatibility, and site characteristics.
After evaluating the 25 potential sites, RTD staff recommended the former Denver Post site at the Southwest corner of I-25 and I-70 as the new home of the Bus Maintenance Facility. This past July, it was announced that the former Denver Post site was placed under contract by the current owners to be sold for a significantly higher amount than what it was originally purchased for earlier this year.
Based on this information, RTD expanded its Bus Maintenance Facility site evaluation to include additional locations while still considering the former Denver Post site to ensure that the most suitable location(s) for the bus maintenance functions are thoroughly vetted.
After conducting a basic feasibility analysis, RTD has identified five feasible sites including the former Denver Post site, that meet the minimum criteria for its Bus Maintenance Facility functions. Those sites are:
- Fox South - Southwest corner of I-25 and I-70 (former Denver Post site)
- Fox North - North side of W. 48th Avenue and Fox Street (North of I-70)
- 51st West - E. 51st Avenue West of Washington Street
- 51st East - Northeast corner of E. 51st Avenue and Emerson Street
- 54th - Southeast corner of E. 54th Avenue and Washington Street
