About the Project

In order for the Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility to be built, the existing RTD Platte Division Bus Maintenance Facility will need to be relocated because the site is not large enough to support both the Bus Maintenance Facility and the new Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility.

RTD is currently conducting a site evaluation to select a new location for its Bus Maintenance Facility. The Bus Maintenance Facility conducts light maintenance (e.g. cleaning, fueling, and minor repairs) on 300 buses of every vehicle type in RTD's bus fleet, including the hybrid 16th Street Mall shuttle.

Also, because the Bus Maintenance Facility is relocating due to the construction of the Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility, the Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility
Environmental Assessment will include an analysis of the 'indirect effects' of relocating the Bus Maintenance Facility.

RTD will conduct extensive community outreach efforts to ensure that the development of the Bus Maintenance Facility is sensitive to nearby communities and avoids or minimizes adverse environmental effects, all while ensuring the facility can fully maintain RTD's bus maintenance operations.

RTD anticipates beginning construction of the new Bus Maintenance Facility in Summer/Fall 2009 with an opening in late 2010.
