RTD is kicking off the Environmental Assessment (EA) of the proposed Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility. The proposed site for the Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility is in the vicinity of RTD's existing Platte Division bus maintenance facility, located just north of 31st Street between the South Platte River and I-25. The proposed site also includes all or pieces of several adjacent properties.
RTD needs the proposed maintenance facility to repair, maintain, clean, fuel, and store the 82 - 108 vehicles that will serve the four FasTracks commuter rail corridors: the Gold Line, the East Corridor, the Northwest Rail and the North Metro. The EA study area extends from the Denver Union Station tracks near Coors Field at 20th Street to the South Platte River near 38th Avenue within the City and County of Denver. Some facts about the proposed Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility site:
- 68-acre site with a majority owned by RTD
- Located on the North Metro Corridor Line and connected to the Gold, the Northwest and the East Lines at the Denver Union Station
- The facility will maintain, clean, repair and store the 80-110 commuter-rail car fleet
