FasTracks Moving Forward
The Regional Transportation District is among the many public entities across the country facing challenges as we strive to keep our operations and projects on track during these sluggish economic times. RTD's FasTracks transit expansion program continues to be impacted by slumping sales tax revenues and escalating construction materials costs.Public Meetings

As RTD evaluates the options for moving forward with FasTracks, we are committed to working with you, our stakeholders, as we seek the best regional solution possible.
On Nov. 6, the RTD Board of Directors was presented with the results of the Public Meetings held from Sept. 25 - Oct. 23. Based on the overwhelming lack of public and jurisdiction support for Option 2, the Board moved to eliminate that option from further consideration and analysis.

Options for FasTracks
At each public meeting, RTD will present the current viable options for delivering FasTracks and seek public feedback on those options. The input provided at these meetings will assist the RTD Board in determining the best options for delivering FasTracks.
The 2008 FasTracks Annual Program Evaluation reflects the impacts to FasTracks due to unprecedented increases in the cost of construction materials, fuel, and sales tax revenues not keeping pace with projections.
As a result, RTD has adjusted its long-term revenue assumptions and cost escalation factors to adapt to the changing economic conditions. While the cost of delivering FasTracks has risen along with the current market trends, the RTD Board and RTD staff are committed to working with our regional partners, communities and the public on solutions to these challenges to keep FasTracks moving forward.
If costs continue to increase at the rates now assumed and long-term revenues continue to remain in a slump, it is estimated that it could cost $7.9 billion to build the FasTracks plan by 2017.
Seeking a Regional Solution
As it took a regional effort to create FasTracks, it will take regional cooperation to find solutions to keep FasTracks moving forward. We look forward to working with you, our stakeholders, as we collaborate on delivering more transit at a time when the need for transit investment is at its greatest.
