Event Timeline

  • Spring/Summer 2011 - Construction procurement package with CDOT for the Nine Mile to Iliff segment is finalized
  • Late 2011 - Civil construction package is advertised for bids
  • Spring 2012 - Contract awarded and construction begins from Nine Mile to Iliff
  • March 8, 2012 - RTD receives an unsolicited proposal from Kiewit Infrastructure Co. to build full line
  • April 17, 2012 - RTD Board of Directors authorizes staff to proceed with competitive bidding process
  • May 11, 2012 - Construction begins from Nine Mile to Iliff
  • May 8, 2012 - Request for Proposals is advertised for a Design-Build approach for the line beyond Iliff
  • June 14, 2012 - RTD receives competitive bids from two teams: Kiewit Infrastructure Co. and Balfour Beatty/Ames Joint Venture
  • July 3, 2012 - Staff recommends the Kiewit Infrastructure Co. proposal
  • July 10, 17, 24, 2012 - Public comment is received in RTD Board of Directors committee meetings
  • July 24, 2012 - RTD Board of Directors decides to move forward with the contract
  • Spring 2012 - A Notice to Proceed is issued to Kiewit Infrastructure Co.
  • March 1, 2013 - Official groundbreaking ceremony for the full I-225 Rail Line
  • Spring 2013 - Construction begins on full line
  • Spring 2014 - I-225 highway widening complete from Parker Road to Mississippi Avenue
  • 2016 - Full line opens for service*
*Initially the Nine Mile to Iliff segment was set to open in 2014 but has since been adjusted to coincide with the completion of the full I-225 Rail Line from Nine Mile to Peoria/Smith in 2016
