Signs of Construction: Alameda and Sable intersection closing soon; plan aheadThe opening of the Sable Boulevard and Exposition Avenue intersection is cause for celebration. Crews have worked diligently for the last several weeks to rebuild the intersection to accommodate RTD's newest rail line - the R Line.
With this progress brings the next major intersection closure - Alameda Avenue and Sable Boulevard (pictured at left: detour map for the city center area). Utility relocations, grading and paving operations, track installation and signal relocations will require a full closure of the Alameda Avenue and Sable Boulevard intersection starting as soon as October 4. Track will cross the intersection at grade - or street level - on the east side, but a number of additional improvements will be added during the full closure, including added turn lanes and improved underground utilities.
With this major closure, the goal is to complete all of the work at once and prevent future impacts. Traffic delays are expected and alternate routes are advised. Alameda Avenue through traffic should use Sixth or Mississippi avenues. Sable Boulevard through traffic should use Abilene Street or Chambers Road. This will be a 24/7 operation and nighttime work will be necessary. Access to all nearby businesses will be maintained, and the intersection is scheduled to open to all movements prior to Thanksgiving.
Please keep in mind the following:
• Increased truck traffic entering and exiting the work area
• Bus Routes will be adjusted
• Construction schedule is weather dependent and subject to change
• Follow signage to direct you; do not cut through residential neighborhoods or commercial centers
