Signs of Construction: Progress has been made, but work continues in city center areaIt is quite clear that crews are busy at work on the Aurora Line/I-225 Rail project throughout the city of Aurora. So far this summer, crews have extended track through Abilene and Exposition avenues, relocated hundreds of utilities and completed all of the light rail bridge structures along the corridor. Recently, the area of focus has been near and around the Aurora city center (pictured at left, work in the center of Exposition Ave. where the train will run). Hundreds of drivers are utilizing the detours around Exposition Ave. and Sable Blvd. - a small price to pay in return for transit improvements in Aurora.
Although these detours are cumbersome and often times frustrating, please remember to visit and support the local small businesses in the area (see Support Local Businesses section below). These businesses are owned and operated by our friends and neighbors and are a vital part of Aurora. Even with many upcoming closures and detours, you can continue to access these local shops and services by using Abilene St. or Chambers Rd.
Sable Blvd. is closed between Alameda Ave. and Security Blvd. Sable between Bayaud and 2nd avenues as well as Ellsworth Ave. from the Target truck access to Sable Blvd. will also be closed. These closures will be in place for a couple of months and will allow crews to move and install utilities, pave roadways and install track. Through travelers will be directed to use Abilene St. and Chambers Rd. There will be access to businesses although it may be in a different location. Stay up to date on our road closures.
