Signs of construction: Keep warm and carry on

Keep warm and carry on graphicEver wondered how construction crews brave blustery winter conditions?

The importance of winter weather protection is important to the I-225 Rail Line team.
Managers ensure employee safety by equipping them with gloves, hard hat liners, face masks and other cold-weather gear.

Through winter weather training, employees receive hints on how to stay warm in frigid temperatures. If weather conditions are unsafe, the I-225 team will postpone work as necessary.

Staying warm is not the only challenge workers face in the field: Concrete pours can be very difficult in cold temperatures, but with proper planning our skilled crews are able to work around these conditions.

To ensure concrete measures up to the highest quality and strength, our crews must keep it at a temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit or higher for five days.

Concrete below temperature specifications will freeze and crack. To keep concrete at a steady temperature in cold weather, our crews rely on blankets, tarps and heaters.

There are many obstacles crews must overcome during winter months, but by planning and bundling up with proper cold weather protection gear they are prepared to continue working to stay on schedule.

And, to paraphrase the motivational catchphrase the British government created in 1939 to inspire their citizens during World War II: Keep warm and carry on.
