Photos: I-225 Median Light Rail BridgeCrews working on RTD's I-225 Rail Line project began installation of the big girders for the bridge that will carry light rail trains over the highway. The trains will cross the northbound lanes of the Interstate north of the Nine Mile Station which is at Parker Rd.
The girders that were set are 118 feet long and they weigh about 110,000 pounds (55 tons). For the entire bridge structure, the longest column-to-column span will be 137 feet.
The top of bridge will be about 38 feet above I-225 when it goes over the northbound lanes.
The majority of the bridge will be finished this year, but it won't be officially completed until rails are set on it in spring/summer 2014.
